Fredit BRION have forfeited their match against Gen.G to kick off week 9 of the 2022 LCK Spring Split. The organization was unable to field a full roster for the match after members of Fredit BRION and Fredit BRION Academy tested positive for COVID-19. The news comes after an announcement just a few days prior that multiple members of Fredit BRION's LCK roster had tested positive for COVID-19. As a result, Fredit BRION Academy started in place of the LCK roster and lost 2-0 to T1.

Before the match against Gen.G, Fredit BRION announced that their Academy solo laners had also tested positive for COVID-19. With top laner Lim "Soboro" Seong-min and mid laner Jeong "Feisty" Seong-hoon both testing positive, Fredit BRION does not have five players, regardless of position, that can start in the LCK at the time of their match.

In addition to Fredit BRION's Tweets regarding the situation, the LCK Twitter account has also posted a statement on behalf of the league explaining why the match cannot be rescheduled. Multiple complications with the schedule of the Asian Games would arise if the 2022 LCK Spring Playoffs were rescheduled for later to allow for a makeup match between Fredit BRION and Gen.G, and with the standings the way they are in the LCK Spring Split, a final day tiebreakers are a likely possibility.

The forfeit is a blow to Fredit BRION, who, in 5th place at 7-9, are looking to capture one of the two remaining spots in the 2022 LCK Spring Playoffs alongside KT Rolster and Kwangdong Freecs. Fredit BRION have confirmed that their final match of the split against DWG KIA is still planned on schedule.

The forfeit moves Fredit BRION to 7-10, which means that if KT Rolster can defeat Nongshim RedForce in the first match of week 9 of the 2022 LCK Spring Split, they can tie for 5th place.
