Super Smash Bros. series reaches 69 million copies sold

All of the Super Smash Bros. games have sold 69 million units combined, making Super Smash Bros one of the most successful fighting series ever.

Broken down, the data is quite interesting. The original Super Smash Bros. on the Nintendo 64 has sold 5.55 million to date. Super Smash Bros. Melee has sold 7.41 million copies, Brawl has weirdly sold 13.32 million, and Super Smash Bros. Wii U and 3DS sold a combined 15.01 million. Super Smash Bros. Ultimate was the most successful, selling 27.4 million.

The Super Smash Bros. community recently noted that Super Smash Bros. Ultimate is the most popular fighting game in the world based on sales. This had Smash fans feeling quite proud since the game is often said to be "not a real fighting game." Whether other FGC players accept it as a fighter or not, there is no denying its popularity amongst casual players and competitive gamers alike.

Mortal Kombat's entire series has sold 75 million units. The Tekken series sits at 53 million units sold. And Street Fighter, despite being seen as one of the most beloved competitive titles, has sold only 47 million units. While these numbers are impressive, it goes to show just how incredible Smash' sales have been.
