Apex Legends nerfs Seer's "wallhack" abilities in attempt to curb of reveal meta

Source: Respawn Entertainment

Respawn shipped a variety of nerfs to Seer on Monday in an attempt to curb the massively overpowered Seer "wallhack" meta, that used seers passive heartbeat sensor and his tactical ability to reveal enemies, removing key game sense skills from the equation.

The following changes were introduced to Seer:

Passive

  • The delay between sensor spikes for full health targets was increased from 1.25 seconds to 1.75 seconds
  • The center circle elipses were removed
  • The detection range was reduced beyond 75m
  • The field of view for his heartbeat sensor was reduced

Tactical

  • The detonation time of the tactical was increased from 1.4 seconds to 1.6 seconds, making it easier to dodge
  • Players are no longer flashed or damaged when hit by the ability, and the screen shake was reduced
  • Seer's movement is now slowed while holding his tactical
  • The volume was lowered

Ultimate

  • The ultimate cooldown was increased by 25%, from 90 seconds to 120 seconds.
  • The volume was lowered

Overall, the developers are keeping the very powerful reveal aspect of the Tactical and Ultimate, and while they reduced the power of the heartbeat sensor somewhat, they will be keeping most of its function to discover enemy direction through walls and obstacles. So many of the complaints of those who find Seer's wall hacks to be unfair will remain in the game.

On the bright side, players who have been frustrated with Seer's constant interruption of their revives, or straight up kills on 10 HP targets, at least won't have to deal with those aspects of Focus of Attention anymore.

Seer and other Legends like Bloodhound represent a growing trend in FPS titles to give players "wallhack" like abilities. These abilities have been decried by many as feeling cheap and oppressive, with even Apex developer John Larson piping up to agree that Seer's kit can feel cheap at times,

All of the new Seer changes are live now, we will have to wait and see if it shifts the meta significantly, or if Seer's wall reveal abilities remain too powerful for players to turn down.
