On August 5, in the 2021 League of Legends Champions Korea Summer Split, DWG KIA had no trouble in defeating Fredit BRION 2-0. With the win, they stepped up to 3rd place in the standings. Heo “ShowMaker” Su had a great performance in the match, playing Ryze and Syndra. He joined Inven Global for a post-match interview to talk about welcoming back Yang “Daeny” Dae-in and the entire LCK season.
How do you feel about today’s win?
I’m happy that we won 2-0 while it’s still a fierce fight to get higher in the standings
Daeny is back. He’s a coach that won Worlds with you. How is it having him back?
Since we know each other well, there’s not much trouble adapting. He’s a big help.
How did his return affect the team?
He works hard to lead us with the in-game things. We’ve been doing well with his feedback.
Who was the happiest having Daeny back?
Well, he’s a very capable person — who wouldn’t be happy? [Laughs]
The current results DWG KIA has wouldn’t be that satisfying as you’re the World Champions.
I don’t think our results up to now are very satisfying, but even if our results in the regular season are like this, what matters is the playoffs. We need to prove ourselves there, and our goal is to win the championship. I’m much more confident in best-of-fives.
Looking at LCK standings, is the season going as thought?
I’m not sure. Right now, the gap between the top teams and lower teams isn’t that wide, so it’s an interesting season for sure. It’s a season where any team can beat any other team.
Did you think Nongshim RedForce would maintain 1st place for such a long time?
I did think they would do well, but I didn’t think they would be in 1st place. They’ve been doing well around Peanut. Their teamfights are great and they have a good idea of how to play the game.
Have you been watching other leagues? Which league do you watch the most?
I’ve been watching the LPL a lot. There are a lot of good teams there. It’s easier to watch them since we’re in the same time zone. I usually watch all the games between strong teams — mostly FPX, RNG, or EDG. It helps a lot since their styles are all different.
How about the LEC?
I don’t watch the LEC much.
Recently, Mikyx said that the LCK bot lanes aren’t as good as the LPL or LEC. You’ve played in the bot lane this season too — what do you think?
Well, maybe the LCK could be behind the LPL, but I think we’re better than the LEC. I don’t evaluate LEC that high. It might be worth comparing LCK bot lanes to the LPL, but with the LEC… There aren’t many teams that stand out. Maybe Rogue or Misfits? I don’t think they’re that good.
Obviously, DWG KIA’s goal would be to win the summer championship and head straight to Worlds. To achieve that goal, what needs to be improved?
I think we have a good idea about how to win, but there are some mistakes in the process. It hasn’t been long since… Our strategy analyst [Laughs] joined the team, but we’ll be working hard to prevent those mistakes and become a more solid team.
If that works out well, would we be able to see the dominating DWG KIA like last year?
Well, no one knows. [Laughs]
Any last comments?
Thank you to the fans that supported us even when we were shaky. I’ll work hard so that we could get higher in the ranking with a better performance. Thank you.
