The Video Game Based on the Book Victor Frankenstein: Is it Worth Playing?

More than 200 years have passed since Mary Shelley’s book was first published and yet it continues to fascinate people throughout the world. The book is a combination of science fiction and a Gothic horror story and is a worth reading book.

It is a story of a Swiss student, Victor Frankenstein, who puts together pieces of corpses to create an artificial man. Initially, the monster seeks affection but since everyone loathes it, he ends up turning upon its creator.

Victor Frankenstein – The Video Game

The novel was adapted into a video game in 1994 and was created for Sega and Nintendo game systems. It was released by Sony and was based on the 1994 movie. The story about Frankenstein and his creation is the same in both the movie and the game.

However, in the novel, the monster killed only those people who were connected to Victor, his creator, and that too after they have shunned. In the game, he is a monster roaming around the streets, blatantly killing anyone who gets in his way.

Moreover, the monster in the game has added abilities such as blue energy bolts that he throws at his opponents. This wasn’t a part of the novel. One thing that the game takes away from Frankenstein is his humanity.

Is it Worth Playing

The game can be used as a way to build up the interest of students who are studying the novel in their English Literature class in school. Various students' essays depict major conflicts in Frankenstein and the game helps you visualize them. Frankenstein has many lessons to teach its readers, the foremost lesson of which is the danger which lies with using technology recklessly. Generally speaking, and you can learn this in free essay samples about Frankenstein as well, when people don’t consider the negative impacts of their actions, it can have damaging consequences.

Once you play the game, you visualize the monster itself and can see the havoc it is raising. As a teacher, if you let your students play the game, it will build their interest and they would read the book happily.  Therefore, the game has a very strong use in education Moreover, there are a few simple puzzles and quizzes that you have to solve in order to progress to the next level, which is good for your cognitive skills.

The puzzle-solving objects need to be collected and can be challenging, but increase the interest of the player. As far as entertainment source and adventure game is concerned, it is indeed a nice game based on the book for students in college that you can play in your leisure time.

In the book, we see that Frankenstein is alone, sad, and doesn’t want to hurt people. The only reason he hurts people in the book is to get back at Victor, his creator, for abandoning him. In the game, however, we don’t get to see this side of the story.

In the game, not only are the townsfolk out to get the Monster’s head, but Frankenstein faces off against birds, leeches, spiders, etc. as well. Since the main weapon doesn’t have a lot of reaches, and if you use the alternate weapon your health will decrease, the best plan is to run or jump past the enemies instead of trying to fight them.

In each level of the game, you will find objects that you will not use – on their own or combined with other objects as well. This is because the instructions manual is very vague and you don’t know how to use them and you will be playing with the trial-error approach.

Frankenstein Game – Final Word
