DRX Pyosik on the team's current status: "My standard is 2020 DRX... We have a long way to go."

On Jan. 14, DRX defeated Afreeca Freecs 2-1 in the 2021 LCK Spring Split. It was a very close match, but DRX succeeded to destroy Afreeca Freecs’ final Nexus through their teamfights. After the match, jungler Hong “Pyosik” Chang-hyeon and mid laner Song “SOLCA” Su-hyeong were voted as players of the games and were interviewed by the analyst desk.

Congratulations on the win. How do you feel?

Pyosik: We had a close win 2-1. I do feel good that we won, but I’m not as satisfied with our performance.

SOLCA: It’s fortunate that we won the first game, but there were regretful moments in all three games. We would need to prepare better for the next matches.

(To SOLCA) Do you think this season is a big chance for you?

SOLCA: Yes. I think this season is a big turning point in my life, so I need to do well.

How did you prepare to face Afreeca Freecs who has many veterans on the team?

Pyosik: As much as we’re a team full of rookies, we concentrated on the fundamentals, getting used to the team game, and tried to raise our class. We didn’t prepare specifically about Afreeca Freecs and that they had several veterans. We practice focusing mainly on fundamentals and team synergy.

How far do you think you’ve reached the projected goal?

Pyosik: My standard is 2020 DRX. With that standard as 100%, I think we have a long way to go.

In today’s LCK matches, the Graves-Zoe mid-jungle comp appeared in five out of six games. What do you think of this comp?

Pyosik: The Graves-Zoe comp is good when Graves can collect the jungle camps and Zoe takes lane priority. When they do that, they can use that strength in jungle skirmishes or affect the side lanes.

Seraphine appeared today. How was it playing against her?

Pyosik: Our bot duo struggled a lot against Seraphine. It seems that they haven’t faced Seraphine that much yet. We didn’t have much data on Seraphine, but through today’s match, we’ve collected a lot of data. As for me as the jungler, I didn’t feel too much pressure.

Pyosik is famous for post-match ceremonies. You said that you’ll do something before. What was it?

Pyosik: I saw that DWG KIA was wearing Vayne sunglasses after winning the KeSPA Cup. I thought it would be fun to do the same if they send us the sunglasses.

In the pre-match interview, you said that you have something like a gun and that you’ll shoot Dread.

▲ "BANG!" (Source: LCK)

Pyosik: Oh… Dread, fighting!

(To SOLCA) Are you also going to do ceremonies like Pyosik in the future?

SOLCA: Pyosik can do that since he’s really good in the game. I’ll think of it after I become good as well.

You’ll be facing Hanwha Life Esports in the next match. You’ll be meeting Chovy and Deft. How are you planning to face them?

Pyosik: [Sighs] They’re enemies so that I have to win… [Sighs] My heart aches, but they’re our enemy team so we have to win. I’ll do my best to prepare.

SOLCA: As much as I have to lane against Chovy, who was my former teammate, it could be an interesting issue, so I’ll do my best as well.
