The Riot Games dev team has been hard at work, recently bringing us a reworked Volibear, and announcing two new champions coming soon this Summer, with five more slated before the end of the year. They've also just announced the next Visual and Gameplay Update - Dr. Mundo - which will go live in 2021.
Last year, Riot allowed fans to vote on the next champions to get a VGU. They listed Fiddlesticks, Volibear, Dr. Mundo, Shyvana, and Nocturne. Fiddlesticks and Volibear tied for first (off by less than 0.3% of the votes) and received their updates earlier this year, and though he was 5th in the voting, Mundo is next on the list to receive that sweet - or terrifying - update.
Before their campaign last year, Riot usually wouldn't give a year between their announcement and VGU finalization, but they "saw a strong positive reaction from players when we did the /dev blogs for Fiddlesticks and Volibear, so it’s something we want to do for Mundo as well." And they're not wasting any time; just this next week, Riot plans to release a full post covering their exploration of the champion, much like they've shared with the aforementioned VGUs they did this past year.
While they may have changed their overall goal of his rework - which we'll find out soon - they said this about their intentions with the crazy doctor before last year's vote. "We’d want to execute much better on his theme of a horrifying-yet-hilarious masochistic madman who goes wherever he pleases and does whatever he wants. For his gameplay, we’d want to preserve his niche as an unkillable self-healing super tank, as well as his iconic cleavers. His W and E don’t currently offer all that much satisfaction or decision-making, so we’d be looking to replace or upgrade both of these abilities."
Be sure to stay tuned for more details on the VGU coming out soon. And check out their champion roadmap in the meantime.
