Call of Duty adds Warzone, a new free-to-play battle royale mode

Activision announced Call of Duty: Warzone, a free-to-play battle royale mode.

Warzone selected Verdansk as its main background and will be available in two modes: battle royale and plunder. In the battle royale mode, a max number of 150 people can join to become the last man standing. Plunder is to collect the most cash by looting, taking down enemies, and completing contracts.

Along with Warzone, they revealed new unique game systems as well such as “Contracts” and “Gulags”. Contracts are objective oriented tasks that squads can find and accomplish across Verdansk. A squad can only activate one contract at a time and by completing them, in-game cash or other loot items are rewarded.

There are “Buy Stations” where you can spend the cash to purchase beneficial items. Killstreaks, redeploy tokens, self-revive kits, etc will be available. In Plunder, there’s another unique game mode item called the “Cash Deposit Baloon”, which is a portable field upgrade that allows you to deposit cash from anywhere.

The “Gulag” exists only in the battle royale mode. Upon a player’s first elimination, they will be thrown into the Gulag where they can have 1v1 fights for redeployment. The winners of the 1v1s can return to the battlefield while the losers have to wait for their teammates to buy them out.

Warzone can be played without the purchase of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare. The Battle Pass, operator, weapons, customizing, etc obtained from Modern Warfare can be used directly in Warzone as well.

Call of Duty: Warzone will be available worldwide on the 10th (PDT). Those who have purchased Call of Duty: Modern Warfare will have a 4-hour early access.
