AFs MaRin: "Would you kindly refrain from making spiteful comments about the players?"

Gyeonghwan "MaRin" Jang urged the fans to kindly refrain from making spiteful comments about Afreeca Freecs's botlane duo.

On the eleventh day of 2017 LCK Spring Split, Afreeca Freecs managed to defeat ROX Tigers with a 2-1 record and broke free of 3-match losing streak. While MaRin's play left a bit to be desired in Game 1, he showed what it means to be the 'oldest brother' of Afreeca Freecs family in both Game 2 and 3 and led the carries to victory.

Here is our interview with him after the match.

Congratulations on breaking the losing streak. How are you feeling right now?

Our mind was stressed because of the 3-match losing streak, and our body was stressed because of all the practices. I'm very relieved that we managed to win today's match.

You had a chance to play as Camille in Game 1. Did you think that you could carry your team?

I believed that I could carry the team by the mid or late game. While we have been doing scrims without banning Camille, I didn't get many chances to actually pick Camille. Not only I was thrown off about being able to pick Camille, but I was also playing the match too much like I was doing a scrim. I think I have to prepare better next time.

You've made an unfortunate call in Game 1.

It was definitely my mistake. I thought we could win. Orianna-Camille composition usually scores a kill through chaining their ultimate abilities and I thought Kuro would be able to make follow-up plays. However, it turned out that I went too deep into enemy lines for my teammates to follow up.

Then, why did you pick Maokai instead in both Game 2 and 3?

We've practiced this strategy to clear the raptors as soon as they spawn with a help from Maokai, which will allow the jungler to reach Level 2 instantly and gain an edge over the enemy jungler. Nowdays, Dayoon "Spirit" Lee was losing his confidence when facing the enemy jungler 1-on-1, so we decided to use that strategy in the beginning of Game 3 to help him out.

How does it feel to be playing in the LCK again?

Teamwork is not yet as good as it had been with my previous team, but I think it's fun to improve it over time. Though, I think we'll make better progress if we don't keep losing.

What are your thoughts on the so-called "Marinternal Influenc--"

Your next match will be against none other than SKT T1.

You know how we barely managed to win today? We thought we shouldn't even dream of winning against SKT T1 if we don't win today's match with a 2-0 record. Needless to say, beating them is going to be very difficult. (Laughs) On top of that, we only have a day to prepare against them. I guess we have to come up with a plan as soon as we can.

Recently, we are seeing this new draft strategy as the Red team that involves intentionally not banning the 'overpowered' champions. What are your thoughts on this new strategy?

LeBlanc, Rengar and Camille are indeed strong, and there is usually a strong pick among ADCs or supports. So, the idea for the Red team is to intentionally allow three strong champions through the banning phase, let the Blue team take one of the three, and take the remaining two.

I think draft strategies will become even more sophisticated than this as time goes on. Despite all the discussions with everyone on the team about the draft phase, we are still making mistakes during draft.

Thank you for your time, sir. Do you have anything else that you want to say?

Our botlane duo was stellar in both Game 2 and 3. Some fans were quite critical about them recently, but I don't think they are that bad. Besides, they are getting better as they are working hard on their teamwork. More importantly, would you kindly refrain from making spiteful comments about the players? Please, cheer for us instead.
