On the 17th, NC announced that it will begin recruiting testers in August for 'Astra: Oratio,' a new subculture RPG currently under development by Studio Dynamis One.
'Astra: Oratio' is a subculture RPG set in a fictional 1889 Tokyo where magic exists. Players take on the role of a chief at the Special District Bureau, an agency that manages the magical world. As they handle administrative tasks related to mages scattered throughout Tokyo, they build relationships and work to resolve incidents and conflicts occurring across the city.
The game differentiates itself by centering its narrative on the 'New Weird' (Shin-denki) genre, which captures the aesthetic sensibilities of the early 90s through the late 2000s. Alongside this, a promotional video featuring in-game combat was released on June 23, showcasing a system that adds a counter-attack mechanic timed to enemy attacks to the traditional turn-based collection RPG formula.
The schedule for the Closed Beta Test (CBT), where players can experience the game firsthand, has not yet been announced; further details will be shared after the tester recruitment period in August. Information on how to apply and participate will be released later via the official website and official social media channels.
Meanwhile, 'Astra: Oratio' will be featured at the 108th Comiket, held on August 15 and 16. The team plans to appeal to subculture fans by showcasing various merchandise, including an official art book, and hosting on-site events. The game is also continuing its aggressive promotional push with a confirmed appearance at the Tokyo Game Show, which will be held from September 17 to 21.
