BANDAI NAMCO Filmworks has unveiled its next-generation Gundam initiative, the 'RG Project,' alongside a new anime series titled 'Mobile Suit Gundam RG Alex Zero (XARX-ZERO).'

The RG Project is a new multimedia universe conceived by Kenji Kamiyama—known for his work on 'Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex' and 'The Lord of the Rings: The War of the Rohirrim'—with world-building developed in collaboration with Towa Enzo. It shares a multi-generational narrative within a single, continuous world, unfolding across various media including animation and games.

At the heart of the project are the new anime 'Mobile Suit Gundam RG Alex Zero' (hereinafter 'Alex Zero') and the upcoming high-mobility action game 'Gundam Log Orbit.' While sharing the same universe, the two works will depict stories from different eras and perspectives.

Alex Zero' is set approximately 100 years before the events of 'Gundam Log Orbit,' marking the beginning of a new epic by showing the origins of the story and the formation of this new world. 'Gundam Log Orbit' continues the narrative several generations later, shaped by the cumulative events depicted in the anime. Gundam fans will be able to immerse themselves in this new world through both media and experience the impact of their own choices.

Details regarding the plot, protagonist, and mobile suit for 'Alex Zero' were also revealed. In this story, humanity has achieved unprecedented prosperity and expanded throughout the solar system thanks to three 'blessings' from outside the solar system. However, less than 10 years after their discovery, the interstellar objects that brought these blessings began to run rampant, giving rise to an aggressive, self-replicating system. People have come to refer to this unknown ecosystem as the 'Apocalypse.

After three months of conflict, the front lines reached a stalemate in satellite orbit. Humanity abandoned Earth, and that year was recorded as A.A. 1 (After Apocalypse). The main story begins in A.A. 45, when the protagonist, Rei Azumi, wakes up on the moon. Rei is a war orphan who lost his parents to an Apocalypse attack and serves as the dedicated pilot of the Gundam ZERO. He is voiced by Takeo Otsuka.

The Gundam ZERO is a cutting-edge experimental unit developed to counter the Apocalypse, representing a next-generation mobile suit known as a 'Gundam-type.' The Apocalypse consists of silicon-based lifeforms that proliferated after separating from the interstellar objects that arrived from outside the solar system.

Director Kenji Kamiyama introduced "Alex Zero" by saying, "When I was asked to create a Gundam for a new world line—neither the Universal Century nor the Anno Domini—I spent many unhappy days pondering what makes a Gundam a Gundam. But then I realized that having the chance to build my favorite kind of Gundam from scratch in this day and age is the ultimate opportunity, and suddenly, the story started to become fun to write."

Meanwhile, 'Gundam Log Orbit,' another core component of the RG Project, was first announced during the Summer Game Fest (SGF) this past June. It is an action game featuring high-speed, free-roaming, high-mobility battles where the player takes on the role of Lag, a pilot of the Gundam Helix, to face the threat posed by an unknown enemy. Set in the same universe as the anime, the two works offer a deeper level of immersion when experienced together.

Both 'Mobile Suit Gundam RG Alex Zero' and 'Gundam Log Orbit' are scheduled for release in 2027. 'Gundam Log Orbit' will be available on PC, PS5, and XSX|S.
