Riot Games’ first take on a first person shooter, VALORANT, has been released in closed beta format in the United States and Europe since April 7th. Nearly a month later, on May 5th, it was finally made available in Brazil, Korea, and Latin America. Recently registered in China, the game is likely to soon expand its testing, being released in the region.
As reported by Daniel Ahmad, Senior Analyst at Niko Partners, who covers the video games market in China and Asia, Riot Games has successfully registered VALORANT’s copyright and trademark in China. Moving forward, the publisher will have to submit the game for approval, and if greenlit, the FPS is likely to have an official release in Chinese territory.
In China, VALORANT has received a new name. Translated to “Fearless Contract”, or “Contract of the Fearless”. The title’s meaning has puzzled members of the gaming community. In Catalan, "valorant" is a verb form of valora, which means "to value" something, while in English valor means "great bravery".
