Nexon is adding Miya and Kim Ji-yoon, two key characters from 'Sudden Attack 2', to its online FPS game 'Sudden Attack'.

Developed by Nexon Games (formerly Nexon GT), 'Sudden Attack 2' began development in 2012, underwent alpha testing in 2014, and moved to closed beta in 2016. Although it officially launched on July 6 of that year, the game was shut down on September 29 following various controversies.

Now, 10 years after the release of its successor, Nexon has brought back the two characters that once symbolized the game's failure into the original title.

Nexon recently used its official social media channels to turn past failures into a lighthearted, self-deprecating marketing campaign. Following an emotional post that read, "I thought the sound of wind and bleak rain was hitting the office window, but it's actually a beautiful, sunny day. I'm still haunted by the illusion that a storm hits around this time of year," the company added, "Actually, we know. We were incompetent. It's been the calm before the storm for 10 years."

This is interpreted as an attempt to leverage the 'calm before the storm' slogan—a symbol of the failure from a decade ago—to stir nostalgia among users and move past the mistakes of the past.

Miya, who is being added to the game, is a freelance mercenary who operates globally. Known for her distinct style, striking appearance, and exceptional combat skills, she is considered the 'idol of the battlefield' in the mercenary world. It is said that many extreme mercenary fans are willing to take on dangerous missions just to stand on the same battlefield as her, and rumors even suggest that several famous mercenary groups have claimed to be her fan club while fighting.

Kim Ji-yoon is a South Korean special forces operative skilled in underwater infiltration. With all information about her shrouded in mystery—save for her Korean origin—there are even rumors questioning whether she is truly Korean. Reports from special forces units sent to capture her often simply confirm the gap in skill, and it is common for units to fail to even file a report at all.

The Miya and Kim Ji-yoon characters will be available for purchase permanently following the regular maintenance on July 2. To celebrate their return, a special event will also be held from the end of the July 2 maintenance until the start of the July 16 maintenance. Users can collect characters from the 'Miya & Kim Ji-yoon Multi-Count' to exchange them for a 'Miya & Kim Ji-yoon Permanent Selection Ticket', 'Prime Eagle Eye & Rock Permanent Character', or the 'Supreme Miya & Kim Ji-yoon Character', which features a function-change system.
