NVIDIA CEO Jensen Huang: A 10-Year Nintendo–NVIDIA Partnership “Completed with Switch 2”

Nintendo, which has been steadily releasing its interview series “Creators’  Voice” featuring Nintendo Switch 2 console and software developers, unveiled a video of NVIDIA CEO Jensen Huang ahead of the Switch 2 launch.

In the video, Huang appeared on screen and revealed the behind-the-scenes story of developing a custom processor for Switch 2. He began by highlighting the more than ten years of collaboration with Nintendo, explaining that throughout this period they shared a belief that technology exists to support creativity and that engineering should serve the purpose of enjoyment.

Regarding the original Nintendo Switch, which sold over 150 million units, he said it redefined the very definition of a console and explained that NVIDIA engineers completely redesigned everything from the chip architecture to the operating system, APIs, and game engine.

For Nintendo Switch 2, they have gone a step further, emphasizing an architecture that delivers mobile-class top-tier graphics, full hardware ray tracing, HDR for bright highlights and deep shadows, and even backward compatibility. He also mentioned a dedicated AI processor designed to make real-time gameplay sharper and to achieve improved animations.

Huang paid tribute to the Nintendo Switch, saying that although it was released after the late Satoru Iwata—former president and representative director of Nintendo—passed away, it remained a console that embodied his spirit, and it also played a role in bringing families together, honoring Iwata’s achievements.

In particular, referred to Iwata respectfully as “Iwata-san,” Huang stated that the Switch 2 was not merely a new console but a new chapter befitting President Iwata’s vision, expressing pride in the partnership with Nintendo and congratulating them on both the collaboration and the launch of Nintendo Switch 2.
