Overwatch wins Game of the Year at 2017 Game Developers Choice Awards

Overwatch won the 'Game of the Year' award at the 2017 Game Developers Conference in San Francisco.


In the 17th Annual Game Developers Choice Awards, which took place during GDC 2017, Overwatch was nominated for five Award categories and won the award for Best Design and Game of the Year.


Released last May, Overwatch is a brand-new IP from Blizzard Entertainment for a genre that they had never previously tried. With well-polished gameplay and a fun multiplayer experience, Overwatch proved that Blizzard was not only willing to break out of their own mold, but also able create a worldwide hit along the way.


For individual awards, Jordan Mechner was awarded the Pioneer Award for his work on Prince of Persia, Mark DeLoura received the Ambassador Award for his work as the Senior Advisor for Digital Media for the Office of Science and Technology Policy in the Obama administration, and Tim Sweeney of Epic Games was honored with the Lifetime Achievement Award.

Best VR/AR Game - Job Simulator: The 2050 Archives (from Owlchemy Labs)

 

Audience Award - Battlefield 1 (From EA DICE)

 

Game of the Year - Overwatch (from Blizzard Entertainment)
