Capcom is hosting America's first ever Monster Hunter: World Tournament.

Sign up by July 26th here.

Monster Hunter: World is all about slaying massive monsters with friends in order to craft increasingly powerful gear that allows you to slay increasingly powerful monsters. The gameplay is has captured the hearts of gamers worldwide and, today, American Monster Hunter's have been given the chance to compete in a speedrunning styled tournament.

The USA Championship

On July 28th in San Diego, die-hard American players will compete in teams to see who can slay specific monsters the fastest. Winners will receive a fully paid trip to Japan where they will compete in an exhibition tournament during the Tokyo Game show.

Similar to World of Warcraft's Mythic Dungeon, the tournament challenges players on how quicky they can defeat enemy encounters already in the game. This means teams will have ample time to establish strategies and work out the fastest method of defeating the monsters. Due to the games action-MMORPG nature, however, mechanical skill and player reflexes still play a major role in defeating monsters quickly and the best teams will have to combine both strategy and expert reflexes to win.

▲ Among the prizes is a Monster Hunter themed watch (it is a time-attack tournament after all)

You can catch the tournament streamed at twitch.tv/capcomusa. The first Qualifier Quest places a monster called "Pukei-Pukei" as bounty and dictates which types of weapons players can use as well as the area in which they will fight. The top 8 teams from this quest will move on to the Finals Quest.
