'Windrose,' an open-world pirate adventure released in early access on the 14th, has surpassed 500,000 units in global sales within just 48 hours. Developer Kraken Express announced the milestone via its social media channels that same day.
'Windrose' had garnered significant attention from gamers even before its launch. During the Steam Next Fest in February, it recorded the second-highest number of concurrent users, trailing only 'Marathon,' and entered early access with high expectations, having surpassed 1.5 million wishlists. This anticipation translated directly into its early access performance; by the 15th, one day after launch, it reached a peak of 97,981 concurrent players on Steam.
The game is receiving positive feedback beyond just player counts. With 5,440 reviews registered so far, it maintains an 87% recommendation rate, earning a 'Very Positive' rating on Steam. Given that it is an early access title, this can be considered a highly successful debut.
Detailed player feedback has been generally favorable across the board, ranging from survival and crafting elements—such as gathering materials and building bases in a vast open world—to non-targeting combat and naval battles fought on the high seas. However, the reception is not without criticism. Some players have complained about unstable matchmaking in the multiplayer mode, which supports up to eight-player co-op, and others have pointed out that the combat impact on land feels underwhelming.
In announcing the sales figures, Kraken Express stated, "Everything is thanks to the support and passion of our users," and added that a hotfix addressing the reported issues is scheduled for release this Friday.
