GEN Doran: "My Gragas really might have improved because of Score."

On Jan. 22, in the 2022 LCK Spring Split, Gen.G defeated Hanwha Life Esports 2-1. Through the win, they rose to 1st place with 4 wins and no losses. In the match, Choi “Doran” Hyeon-joon had a great performance and was voted as Player of the Game in games 2 and 3. He joined Lee Jeong-hyun for a post-match interview.

Congratulations on the win. You’re on a 4-game winning streak. How do you feel?

I’m happy that we’ve been winning. But I don’t think I deserve to be the only POG today. I’m a bit ashamed. There are times when I know I’ll get POG, but I didn’t expect it today. I didn’t think I’ll get voted as POG for game 2 since I died too much in teamfights. I was dumbfounded. [Laughs] I didn’t shine that much in game 3, but since I won lane big, maybe I deserved it for game 3.

You’re a top laner that reflects well on your own performance. How satisfied are you with your performance today?

I didn’t play that well. My performance today was much below my standards. I’d give myself 70 out of 100.

It seemed that Caitlyn and Lux bot duo was a bit difficult to face. How was the feedback?

It wasn’t my lane, so I was thinking about something else. The bot duo talked with the coaching staff. I was thinking about myself missing too many skillshots, so I regretted not playing another game on Gwen yesterday.

Your performance was still great, as you earned yourself the POG for games 2 and 3. How did the team react when Hanwha Life Esports picked Trundle support?

I really don’t remember. I don’t think we said much.

Of your 300 POG points, you earned 200 with Gragas. Your Gragas has been amazing. Is it because of your new head coach, Score, who is one of the best Gragas players ever?

When I first joined Gen.G, I wasn’t that confident playing Gragas, but I became confident all of a sudden. My Gragas really might have improved because of Score.

Did you practice Gragas a lot during the offseason?

Actually, I didn’t really practice that much. I didn’t play him much, but I think I’m better than before.

You picked Gnar into Gragas in game 3. What’s Gnar’s advantage over Gragas?

Gnar can win in lane and it can have as much influence as Gragas in teamfights.

Which is more fun for you, Gnar or Gragas?

Gnar is more fun. Gragas has to pull the lane to farm. Gnar can take down turrets better and it can hit the opponents in front of their turret.

Mafa said that if you don’t show the nickname, your laning seems like TheShy, and that your laning is second to none.

I heard it. I wondered why he said that. [Laughs] I’m not that good yet. There’s a far way to go.

Your next match is against Kwangdong Freecs. How will you face them?

Since we’re winning, we’ll keep up the flow and continue to do well.
