[Worlds 2019] FPX GimGoon on Facing TheShy: "I knew I couldn’t win just by being scared, so I played as if I had nothing to lose."

On the 2nd, FunPlus Phoenix took down Invictus Gaming in the first semifinal match of the 2019 LoL World Championship. With a back to back bout that very much characterized the LPL, the #1 seed from the LPL are now one more series away from becoming the world champions.

FPX’s top laner, Kim ‘GimGoon’ Han-saem, joined Jeesun Park in the official LCK broadcast for the post-match interview to share his thoughts about the victory.

Congratulations on your victory. How do you feel?

I feel really happy and excited.

How does it feel to play against IG in a Bo5 for the first time?

Because it was a Bo5, it was very different from our regular season. We’ve prepared a lot for this match, and our preparation paid off.

How did you prepare against your lane opponent, TheShy?

I was a bit scared to play against TheShy because the last time I played against him, he played really well. However, I knew I couldn’t win just by being scared, so I played as if I had nothing to lose.

Did you feel pressured to play on a huge stage for a ticket to the finals?

I didn’t really think much about that, and my goal was to just simply show what I’ve got on stage.

The G2 vs SKT match is tomorrow. Who do you think is going to win?

I don’t know who’s going to win, but I hope G2 wins so that we could determine which team has the better playstyle. Life’s full of surprises, and we’ve made it to the finals. We’ll work even harder to win the whole thing.
