G2 Esports reaches several milestones in 2019 LEC Summer Championship

G2 Esports and Fnatic shook Athens to its core in a back and forth epic battle for the title of 2019 LEC Summer Champions. However, when the dust settled, it was G2 who triumphed in Game 5. In winning its second straight LEC Grand Final, G2 Esports also reached several milestones as individual players and an organization.

Have a Day, Jankos

G2 Esports Jungler Marcin "Jankos" Jankowski spent over six years chasing a European League of Legends championship before winning the inaugural LEC split this past spring. It took him less than five months to get his second, and this time, ultimate victory came with a few bonus accolades. In game 2 of the 2019 LEC Summer Finals, Jankos secured the 1000th kill of his European League of Legends career.

Jankos has spent the majority of 2019 playing a facilitator role for G2's dynamic triple threat of carry players, looking far less flashy than his days on Roccat a half-decade ago when he was first given the moniker 'The First Blood King'. However, Jankos play has been nothing short of superb, playing his role perfectly in G2's star-studded system and setting the curve for Junglers in the LEC. Jankos was named the 2019 LEC Summer Split MVP ahead of the Finals, the first of his career.

For the majority of his career, Jankos was known as a good player who just barely fell short when it mattered most, and his hat-trick of achievements this past weekend is exemplary in how triumphantly Jankos has redefined his career on G2 Esports.

Luka's Legacy

We may never see a career arc quite like that of Luka "Perkz" Perković ever again. The Captain of G2 Esports made his EU LCS as a Mid Laner in the spring of 2016, kicking off an era of dominance in which G2 won four European championships in a row over the course of two years. The team remained in top 3 status throughout 2018 and improved massively on the international stage, reaching the Semifinals of the League of Legends World Championship.

Despite achieving success most players can only dream of in just three years, Perkz took a massive career risk, offering his spot at the center of G2 Esports to Rasmus "Caps" Winther and fully committing to becoming an AD Carry.

The roleswap, while initially scrutinized, has paid off in dividends. Perkz, initially sacrificing his ability to individually contribute for the betterment of his team, has developed into a world class marksman, even boasting LEC Summer All-Pro team honors with the rest of his teammates. Perkz and G2 continue to sore to new heights, but at 20 years old, Perkz is already the most decorated League of Legends player in EU history with six titles in four years.

As if Perkz tower of accomplishments wasn't already stacked high enough, the G2 Bot Laner also secured his 1000th Kill of his European League of Legends career in game 2 of the series, shortly after Jankos accomplished the same thing.

Western Warlords

G2 Esports secured a Worlds seed nearly a full month ago, but was heavily tested as the #1 LEC representative by Fnatic throughout the summer.  Explosive regular season meetings culminated in an absolutely epic week for the two teams across ten of the greatest games in European LoL history.
Fnatic went up 2-0 against G2, only to be reverse swept. Eight days later, Fnatic's triumph would once again remain just out of reach, leading 2-1 but dropping the last two games to G2.

Fnatic showed that G2 can bleed, but the resilience shown by the 2019 Mid-Season Invitational champions with their backs against the wall should invigorate LEC fans ahead of the World Championship. G2 would still be a Worlds favorite if they had dropped a best of five, but the mental fortitude showcased by the team in the series' against Fnatic is what will be required if the team wants to followup its MSI 2019 Championship with a sibling achievement at Worlds.

G2 heads into the 2019 League of Legends World Championship as the best Western team, and have poised itself to be in the best position possible to defend its reputation as the best team on the planet.
