2025 LoL World Championship Details Revealed

Riot Games has unveiled full details for the 2025 League of Legends World Championship, commemorating the 15th anniversary of the esport’s premier event. The month-long tournament will begin October 14 in Beijing and conclude November 9 in Chengdu, featuring teams from all five major regions.

The event will open with a best-of-five Play-In series between Korea’s T1 and China’s Invictus Gaming. The winner will move on to the Swiss Stage, while the loser will be eliminated. Riot emphasized the tournament’s theme, “Earn Your Legacy,” underscoring the idea that championship glory must be won rather than inherited.

The Swiss Stage, running October 15–25, will host 16 teams across multiple regions, including Gen.G, Hanwha Life Esports, kt Rolster, and T1 from Korea. Korea’s LCK enters the tournament seeking a fourth consecutive Worlds title, having claimed victories each year since 2022. With nine championships to date, another win would make the LCK the first region to reach double-digit titles.

China’s representatives include Bilibili Gaming, Anyone’s Legend, Top Esports, and Invictus Gaming. Europe, the Middle East and Africa will send G2 Esports, Movistar KOI, and Fnatic, while North and South America will be represented by FlyQuest, VIVO Keyd Stars, and 100 Thieves. Asia-Pacific slots will go to CTBC Flying Oyster, Team Secret Whales, and PSG Talon. The Knockout Stage will be held at Shanghai’s Mercedes-Benz Arena from October 28 to November 2, with the Finals taking place in Chengdu’s Dong’an Lake Sports Park Gymnasium on November 9.

Alongside competition, Riot announced expanded in-game and fan engagement content. Players watching on LoLEsports.com can earn limited rewards tied to in-game milestones such as pentakills or Baron steals. This year’s Pick’em contest, opening October 7, introduces “Factions,” allowing fans to join communities supporting specific creators.

A new Xin Zhao skin, “Kinkou Xin Zhao,” will serve as the tournament’s signature release, tying the ongoing narrative to esports revenue. Prestige chromas honoring past champions and discounted bundles featuring Finals-winning champions will also be available. A special 15th anniversary merchandise collection, themed around the “Twilight’s Trial” storyline, will launch October 13.

The 2025 World Championship not only celebrates League of Legends’ storied past but also sets the stage for its competitive future, as Riot continues expanding esports into its second decade.
