HLE Peanut: "Although there were regrets in our performance, I’m rather positive..."

On Feb. 21, in the 2024 LCK Spring Split, Hanwha Life Esports faced KT Rolster. The two teams fought fiercely as game 1 went past the 55 minute mark, the longest game this season. In the end, Hanwha Life Esports emerged victorious as they won 2-0. After the match, head coach Choi “DanDy” In-kyu and Han “Peanut” Wang-ho joined the media for an interview.

How do you feel about today’s win?

DanDy: After losing our last match, I wanted to change our team atmosphere by defeating KT Rolster, who has been on a good roll. It’s a relief that we did. Although it’s a relief, there were mistakes in today’s match in critical moments. That made the games longer and gave the opponents a chance to win.

Peanut: I’m happy that we beat a strong team. If we lost, we could have fell into a losing streak, but we cut that early. Although there were regrets in our performance, I’m rather positive since those parts are areas we can fix.

How did you prepare to face KT?

DanDy: KT was able to pick the champions that have the initiative, but they went with picks that are good in the late game. It was a bit different from what we anticipated, but it turned out well.

Hirai said that they predicted the draft well, but they weren’t able to win. On the other hand, you said that you didn’t predict the draft. What do you think about today’s match?

DanDy: Our performance wasn’t perfect, but the things we did when we lost were fixed. That led to a better performance.

Compared to game 1, you finished game 2 pretty quickly. Was there feedback after game 1?

DanDy: In both games, we were ahead, but our focus was dimmed a bit, which gave the opponent a chance to come back. I gave feedback on that. In today’s match, when we decided to do something, it didn’t feel like all five players were focused in that direction. That was my main feedback.

Peanut: In game 1, the compositions weren’t something that either team was confident in when teamfights began. That’s probably why it went on for so long. In game 2, we thought we would win if we started fighting. We did fall once, but we still thought we had the upper hand, so we played aggressively.

Do you think this patch will change the game flow?

DanDy: There are several changes with the champions. I believe there will be more late-game-focused champions seeing more play time.

Any last comments?

DanDy: We’ll keep on showing a good performance and keep on winning.

Peanut: I’ll work hard so that we can keep doing well. Please cheer for us.
