A Balanced Look at the RIG 900 MAX HX Gaming Headset

NACON, a prominent figure in the gaming accessory sphere, has recently launched the RIG 900 MAX HX, a wireless gaming headset that promises a top-tier gaming audio experience. As a seasoned gamer and tech enthusiast, I took it upon myself to delve deep into its features, performance, and overall feel. Here's what I found.

Build and Comfort:

The first thing you'll notice is the headset's resemblance to the RIG 600, especially with the adjustable cups on each side, featuring three notches to choose from. While the padded band at the top ensures a snug fit, a slight drawback is the earcups. They don't seem to fully encompass the ears, leaving a small gap at the back that necessitates frequent adjustments. However, this minor inconvenience is overshadowed by the headset's feather-light weight. Unlike other high-end headsets that can become cumbersome over extended periods, the RIG 900 MAX HX remains comfortable even during prolonged gaming marathons.

Connectivity:

The dual connectivity - USB and Bluetooth - is a commendable feature, but there's a catch. You can't use both simultaneously, meaning you can't enjoy in-game sound and stream music from your phone at the same time. While many headsets with dual connectivity offer this feature, it's sadly amiss here.

Sound Quality:

Out of the box, the audio might come off as a bit lackluster, especially in the bass department. However, the RIG mobile app transforms the sound experience. With its customizable equalizer settings, the sound quality shifts from decent to exceptional. The Dolby Atmos support is the cherry on top.

The ability to scan your head via the app to offer a tailored audio experience based on your head shape might sound gimmicky, but it genuinely enhances the sound quality. This personal touch makes the audio more immersive, allowing gamers to detect even the subtlest of movements in the game environment.

Microphone:

While the headset shines in many areas, the microphone feels a tad underwhelming. It's functional, but not exemplary. The mic's placement is a bit lower than usual, which can affect its loudness during chats. However, the flip-to-mute feature is a convenient touch. It does the job, but when compared to the other premium features of the headset, it feels slightly out of place.

The Verdict:

The RIG 900 MAX HX stands out as a strong contender in the wireless gaming headset market. Its personalized audio experience, lightweight design, and impressive battery life make it a worthy investment. However, like all tech products, it's not without its flaws. The earcup design and microphone could use some improvements. The adjustors for the headset do feel somewhat awkward and fragile, which might raise durability concerns for some users. If you're looking for a high-end gaming headset with personalized audio features and can overlook minor design issues, the RIG 900 MAX HX might be the one for you.
