According to a report by Taiwan's Central News Agency, content creator and former League of Legends World Champion Lau "Toyz" Wai Kin has pled guilty to drug trafficking charges. On Jun. 16, 2022, Toyz appeared before the Taichung District Prosecutor's Office charged with allegedly selling marijuana pods. The former pro player apologized and urged the public to steer clear of drugs.

Toyz appeared in the Taichung District Court, pleading guilty to all charges. In his statement, he said that he was under pressure after coming out of a rehabiliation center, and that he regretted his exposure to drugs. His appointed lawyer, Liu Weijian, asked the court to consider his unfamiliarity with Taiwanese laws when deciding on his sentence.

The news comes after Toyz, who has lived on-and-off in Taiwan for years, was arrested late last year in Taipei on suspicion of trafficking marijuana. He was accused of forming a drug syndicate with some friends in late-2019 — selling products containing THC online. He was caught after Taiwanese police posed as drug buyers, leading to the arrest of Toyz, along with seven of his associates.

The arrest created much discussion within the esports community, as well as from other Taiwanese celebrities and esports figures, with actor and singer Hsieh Ho-hsien posting a photo on his social media page smoking in support of Toyz. Marijuana use is less acceptable in Taiwan, with a potential life sentence for distribution.

In a separate suit, his YouTube manager and employee Zhou Zhou also accused Toyz of fraudulent gambling and intimidation. The suit was settled out of court, with an agreement that will see certain media and four YouTube channels returned to Toyz, his debt to Zhou Zhou wiped clean, and both sides withdrawing their allegations against the other.

Toyz was a professional League of Legends player — most famous for playing mid lane with Taipei Assassins in their win at the Season 2 World Championships. He was respected for his skill with Orianna and Anivia, with many considering him the MVP of the tournament. He most recently has worked as an influencer and content creator.
