Evil Geniuses defeat FlyQuest 3-1 at 2022 LCS Spring Playoffs

Source: LoL Esports

Evil Geniuses continue their championship aspirations. In a four-game set against FlyQuest, Evil Geniuses managed to close out the series 3-1. FlyQuest falls out of championship contention, while Evil Geniuses will go on to face Cloud9 in the second round of the lower bracket.

Without a doubt, the series had some very exciting games. Evil Geniuses built up a comfortable lead in the early part of Game 1 — an advantage FlyQuest slowly began coming back from. It wasn't until a poor engagement from FlyQuest on Evil Geniuses lost them a crucial fight, and shortly after the game. Both Kacper "Inspired" Słoma and Joseph "jojopyun" Joon Pyun had great games, and managed to win the game.

Game 2 was a much closer affair. The match was a bloodbath, with no players on either side having less than two deaths, and many having more than five. The match ended up lasting more than fifty minutes, when Colin "Kumo" Zhao snuck into Evil Geniuses' base with a smart Teleport play to win the second game.

Evil Geniuses secured a strong advantage by the draft phase. By securing a composition with far better scaling than FlyQuest, the latter team was forced to try for an enormous early game leaded to win. As Evil Geniuses built up the right items, their win became inevitable. The last game was the least close of the series. By the mid game Evil Geniuses had secured a strong advantage and eventually picked apart FlyQuest's base to win the series.

Although Evil Geniuses was seen as one of the most promising rosters coming into the 2022 LCS Spring Season — with players like Inspired previously considered perhaps the best of their position in the west — the lineup had some struggles early in the split. The rosters face off against Cloud9 on April 17.
