It has been revealed that Team Liquid has won the Coaching Staff of the Split Award for the 2022 LCS Spring Split. The award was announced following TL first place performance in the regular season — going 14-4 throughout. In the first round of the LCS Spring Split playoffs, TL defeated Evil Geniuses 3-2.

The award is especially significant considering the current coaching staff has only been together for a few months. Following the exit of head coach Joshua "Jatt" Leesman last year, TL had assistant coach Jonas "Kold" Andersen replace him. After the team was eliminated from Worlds 2021 in the group stage, TL, retained their remaining staff, and hired André "Guilhoto" Pereira Guilhoto to be head coach for the 2022 season.

Though the team had some early difficulties, including not being able to play with Jo "CoreJJ"  Yong-in for the first few weeks because of green card issues, Team Liquid quickly rose to become one of the most promising teams in the LCS. At the same time, though, the lineup was made up of entirely veteran talent and strong leaders, including the likes of Søren "Bjergsen" Bjerg, a player that has worked as an LCS head coach in the past.

In the announcement, LoL Esports explained award, stating, “Every Split we celebrate the best that the LCS has to offer with awards. We honor the players and coaches who demonstrated exemplary performance throughout the Split. The LCS is all about seeing League of Legends played at its highest level, so this is our way of recognizing superior teamwork, mechanics, and overall game mastery.”

Guilhoto has worked as a coach in League of Legends for more than six years. In the past he has worked with teams such as Schalke 04, Origen, and Immortals.
