T1 have released their Challengers team head coach Bae "Bengi" Seong-woong ahead of the 2022 season. This ends Bengi's long tenure for the organization, which he's represented both as a player and coach.
A crucial part of the SK Telecom T1 legacy of the olden days, Bengi was the starting jungler for the South Korean juggernaut and alongside Lee "Faker" Sang-hyeok led them to their three world championship titles in 2013, 2015, and 2016. After a short single-split stint with LPL's Vici Gaming in 2017, Bengi eventually returned to SKT as coach ahead of the 2018 season and later transitioned to be the head coach of T1 Challengers.
While Bengi's results with the main T1 roster were below par, he did lead T1 Challengers to the 2021 LCK CL Spring title. The tour de force from T1 Challengers that split saw them top the regular season with 15-3 record and ace the playoffs with a combined 6-0 score. Summer, however, was a very different story and T1 Challengers collapsed from first to last place, ending 5-13.
The offseason hot stove in the LCK is now in full force, with many prominent figures free agents. Chief among them are Kim “Canyon” Geon-bu (ex-DWG KIA), Heo “ShowMaker” Su (ex-DWG KIA), Cho “BeryL” Geon-hee (ex-DWG KIA), as well as ex-Hanwha Life Esports' Jeong "Chovy" Ji-hoon and Kim "Deft" Hyuk-kyu.
