100 Thieves signs Abbedagge after Ssumday declares NA residency through green card acquisition

100 Thieves has continued to dominate the off-season leading up to the 2020 League of Legends Championship Series Summer Split. After signing head coach Bok "Reapered" Han-gyu to replace Tony "Zikz" Gray, 100 has signed Felix "Abbedagge" Braun as its new LCS mid laner.

Abbedagge's League of Legends European Championship contract with FC Schalke 04 Esports extended well beyond the summer, so it can be assumed that 100 Thieves purchased his contract from S04. Abbedagge will be able to start for the team as one of two imports alongside jungler Can "Closer" Çelik now that top laner Kim "Ssumday" Chan-ho has declared NA residency after acquiring his green card.

An initial report by Esporin stated that 100 Thieves was in talks to buyout mid laner Yasin "Nisqy" Dincer from Fnatic, which, in theory, made sense if Ssumday was able to get his green card. Nisqy has played in both EU and NA extensively, is friends with Closer, and has been coached by Reapered.

However, in acquiring Abbedagge, 100 Thieves has gained something it has missed throughout the 2021 LCS Spring Split: a consistent starting presence in the mid lane. 100 Thieves swapped out Tanner "Damonte" Damonte for 100 Thieves Academy mid laner Tommy "ry0ma" Le, and while ry0ma was superior to Damonte individually on the control mages that defined the majority of the Spring Split meta, the team never reclaimed its resilient form shown in the LCS Lock In.

Up until this point, Abbedagge has spent the entirety of his major region career as the starting mid laner of Schalke 04 beginning in the 2019 LEC Spring Split. S04 wished Abbedagge well via Twitter, and announced that FC Schalke 04 Evolution mid laner Ilias "Nuclearint" Bizriken would be promoted to start in Abbedagge's place for the 2021 LEC Summer Split.
