TSM won its ninth game of the 2020 League of Legends Championship Series Summer Split against Counter Logic Gaming, and in doing so, joined Cloud9 and Team Liquid in post-season qualification. The gold lead swapped between TSM and CLG more than a couple of times, but when the dust settled, TSM remained standing and clinched a position in the 2020 LCS Summer Playoffs.

TSM's clinching of a spot in the 2020 LCS Summer Playoffs comes with four games left to play this split. TSM's 9 wins mean that the worst record the team can finish with is 9-9. Since TSM's worst possible record would still be better than 9th place Dignitas' and 10th place Immortals' best possible records — 8-10 and 7-11, respectively — TSM is mathematially confirmed to finish within the top 8 standings, which guarantees an appearance in the post-season.

The LCS Summer Playoffs format was changed this season to include 8 teams. Success in the Spring Playoffs no longer gives circuit points towards the World Championship, and with the removal of the NA Regional Final from the 2020 season schedule, the Summer Playoffs results will decide which three teams the LCS is sending to Worlds.

TSM is the third team to qualify for the post-season in North America this summer. Cloud9 and Team Liquid both secured spots just 7 days prior to TSM. No LCS teams have been eliminated from post-season contention at this time.

TSM's current record of 9-5 lands it in 3rd place behind C9 and TL, who are tied for 1st with 11-3 records and a 1-1 head-to-head. Since promoting Erik "Treatz" Wessén from TSM Academy to the starting Support position in the LCS in place of Vincent "Biofrost" Wang, TSM is 3-1. Four games remain in the 2020 LCS Summer Split, so if TSM can continue its hot streak, it may be able to steal the chances of a post-season bye from Cloud9 or Team Liquid.
