AF Spirit: "I really didn’t want to lose to coach NoFe’s team."

Afreeca Freecs defeated Hanwha Life Esports 2-1 in the first round of the 2020 League of Legends Champions Korea Spring Split. During past interviews, Lee “Spirit” Da-yoon had been saying that he really wanted to win against Hanwha Life Esports, against coach Jeong “NoFe” No-cheol. He was excited that he did talk about today’s win in an interview with the press.

How do you feel about winning today’s match?

I’ve been publicly saying that I really want to win against Hanwha Life Esports. I’m happy that I kept my words.

You said that often, even in the player of the game interview as well. Why was it?

I really didn’t want to lose to coach NoFe’s team.

How was the team atmosphere after winning the KeSPA Cup championship until the season started?

It was unfortunate that there weren’t any official games after KeSPA Cup right away. While we were practicing after KeSPA Cup, there was a period where we felt that we’ve mastered the meta. But there weren’t any games then. After that, other teams also caught up with the meta, so we just said that all we need to do is do better than them.

What was your goal for today’s match and how do you think you did?

Today’s goal was demolishing Hanwha Life Esports. I wasn’t able to do 10% of that goal in Game 1, but I did about 50% in Game 2, and 70% in Game 3. The players didn’t want to play champions like Pantheon, but I convinced them and the coaching staff towards the direction I wanted. They were dangerous picks, but I’m thankful to everyone that trusted and followed my opinion.

If it wasn’t against Hanwha Life Esports, would the draft have been different?

We probably would have had a completely different style if it wasn’t against them.

The junglers around the world do not like the current meta…

In the previous versions, the risk junglers had wasn’t as dangerous even if they failed their ganks. In the current patch, it’s extremely risky. I think that’s why junglers are having a hard time.

But you’re doing extremely well. What’s the reason?

The reason I’m being evaluated well is that the laners make good shotcalls. Also, since my teammates trust me so that may be why I seem to do well.

Your next match is against APK Prince.

APK Prince is a team that has a strong blow. We’ll prepare well so that we don’t lose.

It seems that you’re very happy being the starting member of the team.

As a pro player, I should be thankful and happy that I’m playing as a starter. However, there would be times when I would be on the bench strategically. Dread has spectacular mechanics; I learn a lot from him as well. He can also appear whenever.

Any last comments?

I’ve achieved half of my goal for this season. I’ll keep my sword sharp until I succeed the other half in round two.
