Ahead of Galaxy Unpacked, TM Roh, President and Head of the DX Division at Samsung Electronics, has outlined the company's vision for AI.
On the 8th, President TM Roh published an op-ed outlining an AI experience that goes beyond generative AI that simply answers questions, moving toward AI that acts proactively on behalf of the user to provide personalized experiences. He explained that the next chapter of AI depends not just on improving model performance, but on how effectively AI can deliver an optimal experience to the individual. In short, President Roh’s argument is that what matters most is 'an AI that knows the user well, rather than just a smart one.'
Roh also highlighted Samsung's strengths, noting the company's commitment to an open ecosystem that connects countless devices and partners through SmartThings, while simultaneously upholding its responsibility for security.
He also mentioned plans to utilize the proprietary security platform 'Knox' to protect information. Through this, the company intends to secure not only individual devices but also the connections between them. He emphasized that by using a 'Personal Data Engine' to process the most sensitive data on-device rather than sending it externally, they will provide users with a trustworthy and personalized AI experience.
Furthermore, he hinted at innovations in form factors and the application of AI in healthcare, suggesting that wearable devices will be able to quietly monitor a user's sleep and vital signs to help foster better health habits.
"The question that will define the next era is not who has the smartest AI, but who can provide the most trusted and user-centric experience," Roh stated. He added, "At the upcoming Galaxy Unpacked, we will showcase the next phase of a personalized and natural AI experience."
