Sony Pictures has released a three-minute official teaser for 'Jumanji: Open World.' This film is the third installment in the reboot series that began in 2017 and marks the final chapter of the modern 'Jumanji' series, as announced by the production team. The teaser highlights a new premise where the game world spills into reality, featuring the tagline "One Last Game" to signal the series' finale.

The biggest change in this installment is that, unlike previous films where people were pulled into the game, the game now crosses over into the real world. Picking up on the post-credits scene from the previous film, 'Jumanji: The Next Level,' the game's avatars—Bravestone (Dwayne Johnson), Ruby Roundhouse (Karen Gillan), Finbar (Kevin Hart), and Oberon (Jack Black)—appear in reality. The teaser shows these characters trapped in 'demo mode' as they wander through the real world, while wildlife and various hazards overrun the city.

The 'Jumanji' series originated from Chris Van Allsburg's 1981 picture book of the same name. The 1995 film 'Jumanji,' starring Robin Williams, became the definitive entry in the series, gaining global popularity for its unique premise of animals and disasters from a board game bursting into reality. That film is considered a classic of family fantasy and adventure cinema and remains the definitive original for many fans.

Twenty-two years later, in 2017, the series was reimagined for the modern era. The board game was replaced by a video game console, introducing a structure where ordinary high school students transform into avatars to embark on adventures. 'Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle,' starring Dwayne Johnson, Jack Black, Kevin Hart, and Karen Gillan, was a global box-office success, and its 2019 sequel, 'Jumanji: The Next Level,' continued that momentum, cementing the franchise as a staple of modern cinema.

'Jumanji: Open World' serves as a bridge between these two eras. While it features the game's dangers invading reality—much like the 1995 film—it retains the video game world and avatar characters from the reboot series. 'Jumanji: Open World' sees the return of director Jake Kasdan, with Dwayne Johnson, Jack Black, Kevin Hart, and Karen Gillan reprising their roles alongside Nick Jonas and Danny DeVito. The film is scheduled for release in North America on December 25.
