An iced Americano in one hand, a handheld fan in the other. Summer is approaching. With this summer expected to be exceptionally hot, Dyson is launching a portable fan in Korea: the 'Dyson HushJet Mini Cool fan' (hereinafter 'Dyson handheld fan').

I'm not well-versed in the handheld fan market, but I'd expect to pay around ₩15k for a typical one. Why does the Dyson version cost a staggering ₩150k? What kind of cutting-edge technology is packed into it? I wouldn't even pay that much for a high-end desk fan, yet surprisingly, according to official data, the initial stock sold out in about two hours in the UK and Singapore, and in just one day in the US.
The Dyson handheld fan features a 38mm slim design, an ultra-lightweight 212g build, and a bladeless structure that is safe and easy to clean. At 212g, it's slightly lighter than an iPhone Max model, so the weight is acceptable, but looking at the official images, the volume seems a bit larger than I expected. The 5kmAh battery capacity isn't small, but it's not exactly massive either.
Dyson's technology powers a brushless motor that spins at up to 65k RPM, generating wind speeds of up to 25m/s. The Dyson HushJet technology utilizes the Bernoulli principle to create a low-pressure zone, naturally drawing air from behind the fan forward. This is combined with the 'entrainment effect'—where fast-moving airflow pulls in surrounding air—to deliver a powerful breeze.
The star-shaped HushJet nozzle is designed to optimize airflow, ensuring the wind is stable and focused rather than scattered. It also adopts a honeycomb mesh structure to reduce turbulence and deliver a more consistent breeze.

It supports five wind speed settings plus a boost mode, allowing users to select the desired intensity based on the situation or battery level.
The product comes with a neck strap, charging stand, USB-C charging cable, and a travel pouch. The battery can be fully charged in under three hours via USB-C fast charging and lasts up to six hours (at speed level 1). It will be interesting to see how long it lasts at the highest setting.
It is available in three colors: Stone/Blush, Carnelian/Sky, and Ink/Cobalt. The Stone/Blush model launches today, May 13, with the other two colors scheduled for release in June.
The price is shockingly high for a handheld fan, but I am curious. What if the wind pressure is actually that good? What if the stick-like design makes it easy to carry around? If it were a mini desk fan for the office, I might have seriously considered it, but as someone who has never carried a handheld fan, it feels like a futuristic item that's still a bit out of reach. The price is definitely futuristic, too.
