KOEI TECMO America and Team NINJA, in collaboration with KONAMI, announced that a free Silent Hill f collaboration DLC had become available in Fatal Frame II: Crimson Butterfly Remake. According to a release, the downloadable content had launched across PlayStation 5, Nintendo Switch 2, Xbox Series X|S and Windows PC via Steam. The companies also announced a new Steam bundle offering both games at a discounted price.

The crossover added cosmetic items based on Silent Hill f protagonist Shimizu Hinako, including her Navy Sailor School Uniform and Fox Mask. Mio could wear the uniform, while both Mio and Mayu could equip the mask accessory. According to the release, Silent Hill f is the latest entry in KONAMI’s psychological horror franchise, which has sold more than 14m copies worldwide.

Fatal Frame II: Crimson Butterfly Remake is a remake of the 2003 PlayStation 2 title Fatal Frame / Project Zero II: Crimson Butterfly, one of the best-known entries in the survival horror series. In the game, players follow twin sisters Mio and Mayu Amakura as they enter the mysterious Minakami Village, where Mio becomes separated from her sister and must search for her using the Camera Obscura, a supernatural camera capable of sealing hostile spirits.

According to the release, the remake included overhauled visuals and audio, alongside changes to the Camera Obscura system. New features such as focus, zoom, filters and Special Shots were added to combat and exploration. The title was released in standard and Digital Deluxe editions. The Digital Deluxe Edition included the base game, a digital soundtrack, a digital art book and bonus cosmetic items for Mio and Mayu. A Digital Deluxe Upgrade was also made available separately.

The release of the collaboration content continued a wider trend of Japanese horror publishers using crossover cosmetics and franchise tie-ins to keep attention on major launches. In this case, the DLC also connected Koei Tecmo’s long-running Fatal Frame series with one of KONAMI’s biggest upcoming horror releases.
