LCS/LEC Fantasy Primer: What you need to know before you play

Inven Global Fantasy: How to Play — How Scoring Works — Play Now!

The 2020 League of Legends Championship Series Summer Split and 2020 League of Legends European Championship Summer Split are less than two weeks from beginning, and as both premiere LoL esports leagues begin, so will Inven Global’s Esports One fantasy league.

Veterans of fantasy looking for a new way to play in light of the COVID-19 pandemic canceling or postponing most sports leagues may find themselves trying their hand at fantasy League of Legends will need to familiarize themselves with both the LCS and the LEC as Esports One’s fantasy platform pools both leagues together. Let’s take a look at what fantasy players should know about both leagues before they play.

Format

Both the LCS and LEC consist of 10 teams each, who play a Double Round Robin format of best-of-1 matches. The top 6 teams at the end of the 18-game schedule, which takes place across nine consecutive weeks, will qualify for the respective post-seasons for both domestic competitions.

Schedule

The 2020 LEC Summer Split kicks off on Friday, June 12 and will host five games each Friday starting at 9:00am PT. The second set of weekly matches will start on Saturdays at 8:00am PT. The 2020 LCS Summer Split kicks off on Friday, June 12 at 6:00pm PT with two matches taking place every Friday night. Four LCS matches will be held both on Saturday and Sunday, starting at 1:00pm PT, to round out the weekly schedule.

Post-Season

Once the Summer Splits conclude, fantasy competition will extend into the 2020 LCS Summer Playoffs and the 2020 LEC Summer Playoffs. The top four teams who qualify for the Summer Playoffs will be placed into a winner’s bracket. All six teams qualified for the post-season will participate in a best-of-five series format to decide which team will be crowned champion.

The 1st seed will be allowed to select its opponent, and the remaining two teams will play against one another on the other side of the bracket. The losing teams of both matches will be seeded into the lower side of the tournament’s bracket against the 5th and 6th seeds.

The following matches between the losing teams from the first round and the teams seeded 5th and 6th will result in two eliminations from the playoffs. The teams left alive after these matches will play against one another for one remaining spot.

The winners of round one of the post-season will then play against one another to decide one of the teams headed to the Finals. The losing team will play the remaining team left from the bottom side of the bracket to see which other team will qualify for the Finals. The Finals match is a single elimination bout, and will beheld in a best-of-five format like the rest of the post-season.
