On Jul. 20, in the 2023 LCK Summer Split, Gen.G defeated Kwangdong Freecs 2-0 and continued their undefeated streak. With 13 wins and no losses, Gen.G remained at the top of the LCK. After the match, mid laner Jeong “Chovy” Ji-hoon and support Yoo “Delight” Hwan-joong joined Bae Hye-ji for a Player of the Game interview.

Congratulations on the win. How do you feel?

Delight: Although our performance wasn’t that good, I’m happy that we continued the winning streak.

Chovy: I want to win every match this season, and I’m happy we’re getting closer to that goal.

Although it was 2-0, the games were quite close. What did you think as you faced KDF?

Delight: I did think it was hard today, but I thought that we could win if we used our composition well and took it to the late game.

Chovy: It wasn’t easy. We’ll need to go back and see if it was because of the comp or because of the plays.

Game 1 was the longest game this summer. The opponent got impatient since you didn’t fight them 5v5. What was the strategy?

Delight: We thought we would lose if we fight 5v5, so we used our range and tried to poke.

You grabbed Poppy without any vision. How did it happen?

Delight: I first saw Apehlios and Poppy go towards red, and I used my grab that way since that’s where I would use recall.

It was your first Blitzcrank game in the LCK. How is it?

Delight: I practiced Blitzcrank a lot, and I wanted to try it in the LCK. I had my chance today.

Do you think you’ll be picking it more often?

Delight: I believe so.

(To Chovy) You faced Cassiopeia in game 2. Did you predict it?

Chovy: I didn’t predict it when we prepared the draft, but when I saw that they didn’t pick a mid lane champion in the first phase, I thought they might pick Cassiopeia, and they did.

How did you plan to face it?

Chovy: I played Cassiopeia a lot too. It’s a champion that’s strong in the late game with enough items and a high level, so I tried to trade often in the early game.

You marked Jax the whole time in teamfights.

Chovy: Jax had scaled well, and it was the biggest threat to our team. I thought we’ll get advantageous if I mark it and push it away.

In a previous interview, Peanut said that your kill catch ability is slightly off.

Chovy: I don’t think he’s understanding how I want to feed my teammates the tastiest dishes. [Laughs] Peanut is so cold-blooded.

You’ll be facing KT on Saturday. How do you think it’ll go?

Delight: Recently, when the support players gathered, Lehends suggested that the team who wins game 1 should be the winner so that we can go home early. I’ll make everyone go home early.

Chovy: I’ll do my best so that Delight can go home early.
