miHoYo has registered its new title, 'BSide: Olivia Lin,' on the Chinese Steam store, combining music with AI interaction. The protagonist is Lin Li, a Shanghai-based college student who majored in piano and minored in psychology. Players can listen to her performances, upload MIDI files to convert them into videos, and exchange letters with the character. It is less of a traditional game and more of an application that blends music listening with an interactive character experience, complete with a desktop live wallpaper feature.
Notably, some text, including letter writing and music-related explanations, utilizes AI generation. miHoYo plans to launch the title in Early Access to gather feedback on real-world usage, such as video generation quality, playback experience, and letter-writing interactions.
miHoYo previously announced an investment of up to ₩22 trillion in AI over three years, signaling a commitment to full-stack research and development. This suggested that their use of AI in games would become increasingly sophisticated. 'BSide: Olivia Lin' appears to be a testbed for expanding the company's AI capabilities, moving away from the anime-style, character-centric open world RPGs that have been their mainstay. Note that the game page is currently inaccessible from South Korea.

'The Thousand-Year Journey of Adventurer Elliot,' the first completely new title and first action RPG in SQUARE ENIX's HD-2D series, was released on Steam on June 19, following its console launch on June 18. The story follows adventurer Elliot and the fairy Faye as they traverse four eras to confront a thousand-year-old destiny triggered by the discovery of ancient ruins.
