The second episode of Inven Global's podcast, Ranked Chat, features Tempo Storm Super Smash Bros. Melee professional player Jeffrey "Axe" Williamson. The show, co-hosted by Mandie Roman and Inven Global Director of Strategic Content Nick D'Orazio, is now available on the Inven Global Soundcloud.
Axe has been playing Super Smash Bros. Melee for 13 years and has placed in several top 8s. The best Pikachu player in the World has defied expectations again and again with his mid-tier character in a see of Sheiks, Marths and spacies that have defined the top of the Melee metagame for the majority of the past two decades.
However, Axe not only stands as a representation for Pika mains, but an ambassador for mid-tier characters in general. During the podcast, Axe said that Dr. Mario could be the next sleeper character to innovate the Super Smash Bros. Melee meta once again.
Of course, the majority of the conversation was focused around Axe's incredible Smash Summit 8 Championship. Despite Justin "Wizzrobe" Hallett coming off of his first major win at Smash'n'Splash5, Axe was able to keep cool and shut down the red hot Captain Falcon ace.
"It was just something I worked towards for so long and I wasn't sure if it was ever going to happen or not," said Axe. "....I've had so many people tell me it wasn't ever going to happen... but the fact that it actually happened... the best word I can use to describe it is disbelief."
