Dota Underlords has hit open beta on PC, Android and iOS

The gates of Whitespire have finally opened to everyone. Just one week after Dota Underlords went into semi-closed beta (accessible for people who owned the Dota 2 Battle Pass), Valve has pushed the game to an open beta stage. And not just for PC - owners of iOS or Android devices can join the fight too.

Alongside the announcement of an open beta, Valve is promoting several features the game has. For example, aside from the game being playable on multiple platforms, gameplay is actually cross-platform too. Moreover, if you close a game on mobile and launch the PC client, you can pick up right where you left off. Other already included features are a Ranked Matchmaking ladder, private lobbies and an "offline mode" in which you can practice against four difficulties of AI.

What's still to come

Although the game is just in beta, Valve has already made some promises regarding future updates to Dota Underlords. A Battle Pass introducing progression, cosmetics and "other new features" are listed, as well as a replay feature and a seasonal hero rotation. Currently there is no indication when these features might be pushed live, but Valve has updated the game extremely frequently in its short life so far.

With Underlords in open beta, the eyes turn to Riot Games for their next move. Teamfight Tactics, their adaptation of Dota Auto Chess, received more attention on Twitch when it hit the Public Beta Environment just two days ago. However, being on the playtest server means that at the moment it's inaccessible to many players, as you need to meet specific requirements to be granted access to the PBE. Now that Valve has opened the floodgates to Teamfight Tactics' largest competitor, it'll be interesting to see how Riot responds.
