NYXL Fl0w3R: "I want to play against Haksal from Vancouver Titans, as well as Carpe and EQO from Philadelphia Fusion."

Stage 2 of the second season of the Overwatch League marked a significant event for the New York Excelsior — DPS prodigy Hwang "Fl0w3R" Yeon-oh turned 18 and became eligible to play in OWL.

Fl0w3R joins a pantheon of South Korean DPS talent in Park "Saebyeolbe" Jong-ryeol, Kim "Pine" Do-hyeon, Kim "Libero" Hae-seong, and fellow OWL rookie Jeong "Nenne" Yeon-kwan. However, due to the static state of the meta and NYXL's affinity for the GOATS composition, the latter two have started for almost the entirety of the season.  Fl0w3R made his debut against Washington Justice on April 11, replacing Libero on Brigitte duties and helping the team a 4-0 victory.

Fl0w3R joined Inven Global to discuss his transition to the main roster of NYXL, his relationships with his teammates, and the DPS players he is looking forward to facing.

Thank you so much for being here, Fl0w3R. This stage marked your OWL debut. How does it feel to finally be old enough to play on stage?

I was less nervous than when I played in the APEX league in South Korea. I debuted against the Washington Justice, a team with one of the worst records in Overwatch League. The match went pretty smoothly for us.

NYXL signed you long before your eligibility to play in Overwatch League. Did that put any extra pressure on your debut?

I didn't really do too much for a whole year, but now that I'm actually part of the team, I'm trying my best to help us win.

Were you able to learn anything from your teammates in the year before you were able to play?

Last season, I was really disappointed that I couldn't play with the team. I didn't really try as hard as I could have last year, but now that I'm in a position to help the team, I'm trying my best to do that.

How has your day-to-day routine changed since joining the team in full capacity?

I play a lot more Overwatch now than I did in the previous year. That's about it.

Have some of your older teammates been helping you in your transition to the team's roster

Yeah, everyone on the team has been helping me, and I'm thankful for that. I'm really grateful for all my older teammates with experience.

Who has been most helpful in this sense?

Outside of the game, I talk a lot with Saebyeolbe. He talks to me about competitive mentality, not being tilted, and other things like that. In game, when I'm playing or practicing, all of my teammates around me hype me up so I feel ready to play. I'm thankful to everyone for that.

Nenne has started the most matches this season amongst any DPS player on NYXL. What do you think of Nenne as a player?

Nenne is a very smart player. He works really hard, and now, he's seeing his labor come to fruition.

Do you and Nenne often work together or approach strategic elements to the game together?

...Not really. *laughs*

NYXL went undefeated in Stage 1 to start this season, but lost in the first round of the Stage 1 Playoffs to Seoul Dynasty. What is the team doing to be better prepared for future stage playoffs?

We are not going to think the stage playoffs are going to be easy, no matter who we are facing. No matter how well we do in the regular season, we are always going to expect any playoff match to be tough. That's how we are preparing from now on.

Are there any DPS players you're looking forward to testing your skills against in the Overwatch League?

I'm looking forward to playing against Kim "Haksal" Hyo-jong from Vancouver Titans, as well as Lee "Carpe" Jae-hyeok and Josh "EQO" Corona from Philadelphia Fusion.

Is there anything you would like to say to your fans?

I'm going to try my best to get a chance to play more often. I always am given the chance to start, so I will continue to do so every week. When I play, I feel like I am very confident, so I hope the fans will watch me.
