On the 17th of January (KST), Griffin (GRF) swept Kingzone DragonX (KZ) 2:0 in the 2019 LCK Spring Split.
Currently rated as the number 1 favorites for this Spring, GRF dominated KZ throughout the series. In this match, there were some interesting things to watch such as Tarzan's exceptional performance on Xin Zhao, Lehends' support Elise in game 2, and Chovy countering KZ's top dive in game 2. With today's victory, GRF proved themselves worthy as one of the best teams in the current LCK.
After the series, GRF Sword and Chovy joined the press room for an interview.
What are your thoughts on today's victory?
Sword: I'm happy that we've delivered good performance in a new stadium.
Chovy: Since it was a new stadium, I was worried that I would have a hard time adjusting. I think I adjusted better than expected and I'm satisfied.
What were you satisfied with?
Chovy: I underperform when my posture isn't right. Although I was uncomfortable, I was satisfied since I didn't make mistakes inside the game. Well, I did think that the elbow rest was a bit too low.
It was a 2:0 victory that ended very early. So, did things work out as planned?
Sword: When our draft ends as planned, we tend to dominate the game. It was like that today and that's why we ended the series early.
Chovy: I think it went well than expected. I thought, 'Let's do as we normally do' but I didn't expect to end this early.
As a team captain, how does it feel after winning today?
Sword: I did want to carry my team since I'm the captain but the rest of my teammates were so good... I'm somewhat frustrated that I couldn't impact the game as a captain. (laughs)
Your team is the number 1 favorites. Officials say that Griffin is on another level. What do the players think about this?
Sword: To be honest, I feel really good. However, it's a bit early to hear those appraisals; there are still a lot of games left.
Chovy: Although I feel great, I've never really talked about this with my teammates.
You were outstanding when you countered the opponent's top dive in game 2. What kind of calls did the team share?
Chovy: After I dodged some of their attacks a few time I thought about pushing the lane. However, they came in another time and that's when I called my team and said I could withstand for quite long.
Which team do you think is a strong competitor?
Chovy: SKT and Afreeca. The two teams are just so good on LoL in general.
Sword: I would also like to pick Afreeca and SKT T1. SKT T1 will be so scary once they shape up more as a team. Afreeca has such a strong upper lane. Personally, I think they're tough since there's Kiin in the top lane.
