The High School Esports League launches a “Free Agent” team system to their next season

The HSEL is a high school league that provides high school level competition across fourteen different games and has over 12,000 students participating. By supporting young student Esports athletes with the structure and resources to compete in an organized Esports league, HSEL gives their players the opportunity to attract university-level team interest and potential monetary scholarships.

For the first time ever in high school Esports a “Free Agent” team system will be implemented and will allow students the ability to verify their student status via school ID and create teams with friends from any high school across North America. This does not limit teams to students from their schools only. The Summer Open will differ from the HSEL’s regular seasons called “Majors”, where it is required that teams be affiliated with a school and have the involvement of a faculty member.

"This will make it easier for the students to get involved and play on a platform where college recruiters can take notice. Our main goal with launching the Free Agent system is to provide as much opportunity to as many students as possible."  - Aaron Hawkey, COO of HSEL stated.

The Summer season qualifiers start June 4th with the regular season starting June 18th. The summer open will have over 70 partnered college recruiters through NACE (nacesports.org) that will be scouting as the start of the next school year draws closer. Students will compete for trophies, scholarship prizing and other swag, including Respawn chairs and Twitch merch.

Students and administrators interested in signing up or creating their teams can contact: partner@highschoolesportsleague.com. or go to www.hsel.org and register an account.

“We understand that not every school can field a team for each game students are interested in and most schools let out for the summer, so we have created a way for everyone to still compete. This is important because it allows even more students the opportunity to achieve their academic goals through scholarships and puts them in the spotlight for college recruitment.” -  Said Mason Mullenioux, CEO of HSEL, while on a high school Esports development panel at UCI.
