There is rumor that Kevin Chu’s KSV eSports is having negotiations with Samsung Galaxy, the Worlds 2017 champions, on buying the team.

Recently, a user using the nickname ‘Junius’ in Weibo, left a post saying “In 2018, Samsung’s eSports team will disappear. They won’t be managing any eSports teams and an American company will be taking over.” This post has spread through a Chinese eSports authority’s messenger.

Fans are predicting that the rumor is pointed towards KSV eSports of Kevin Chu, which is currently establishing diverse eSports teams such as Overwatch, Heroes of the Storm, Battlegrounds etc.

It is known that Kevin Chu actually has been negotiating with Korean LoL teams. Several teams that have had contact with KSV said, “We talked to KSV, but we weren’t able to agree on terms.” and that “Kevin Chu wants a team that can win.”

After contacting Samsung Galaxy and KSV eSports, there was only a response of saying, “We don’t know anything. We can’t talk about anything.” If it actually is a team that can win, like Kevin Chu wants, the candidates would be Samsung Galaxy, SKT T1, Longzhu Gaming, and kt Rolster. Currently, the three other teams have spoke out that they have nothing to do with Kevin Chu; but Samsung Galaxy was the only team to avoid answering the question.

According to LCK rules, acquiring a team needs confirmation of the LCK committee, and according to Riot, “We can’t mention the name of the team, but if the negotiations go properly, maintaining the seed wouldn’t be an issue.” which also verified that a team in LCK is actually negotiating terms. This also means that there is no problem with transferring players’ or coaches’ contracts to the new company.

If KSV eSports does acquire Samsung Galaxy, they will be participating in the 2018 season as a new team. There wouldn’t be any big changes since all the players are the same, but with enough time, bigger investments are expected.
