Sony's PlayStation 5 (PS5) cumulative shipments reached 97.9 million units as of the end of September. Although console shipments for July–September dropped 35% compared to the same period last year, full-game software sales for PlayStation 4 (PS4) and PS5 increased during the same period. Meanwhile, PS5 exclusive 'Marvel's Wolverine' is estimated to have sold 2.4 million copies worldwide as of November 4.
According to Sony's FY2026 Q2 (July–September) supplementary data released on November 5, PS5 shipments in the second quarter of this fiscal year stood at 2.6 million units. Based on the revised figure of 4.0 million units from the same period last year, this represents a 35% decrease. Compared to the 1.6 million units shipped in the previous quarter (Q1, April–June), shipments rose by 1 million units.
As a result, cumulative PS5 shipments reached 97.9 million units as of the end of September, adding Q1's 1.6 million units and Q2's 2.6 million units to the cumulative 93.7 million units recorded at the end of March. Sony calculates hardware performance based on sell-in shipments to retail channels rather than actual consumer sell-through.
While hardware shipments declined, software sales grew year-over-year. Combined full-game sales for PS4 and PS5 reached 88.2 million units during the July–September period, up 7.9 million units from 80.3 million units in the same period last year. Among these, Sony's first-party title sales also rose from 6.3 million units to 8.2 million units.
Sony Interactive Entertainment (SIE) estimated that the PS5 exclusive action-adventure title 'Marvel's Wolverine,' developed by Insomniac Games, achieved cumulative global sales of 2.4 million copies to consumers as of November 4. This figure covers the 50 days following its U.S. launch on September 15 and represents an estimated sell-through figure excluding add-on content.
