CD Projekt Red is holding a free screening of the first episode of the anime 'Cyberpunk: Edgerunners 2' on Twitch to celebrate its official launch.
According to the official X account for 'Cyberpunk: Edgerunners 2', this special screening will air a total of three times via CD Projekt Red's official Twitch channel. The first broadcast aired on October 20 at 7:01 AM KST, with additional streamings scheduled for 7:00 PM the same day and 4:00 AM on October 21. Select streamers will also be co-streaming the episode, and viewers can receive a special 'Edgerunners 2' chat badge.
This screening offers viewers a chance to watch the first episode without a Netflix subscription. In Japan, CD Projekt Red Japan separately announced a free screening of the Japanese dub, with selected streamers co-streaming alongside the official channel. However, the free preview is strictly limited to Episode 1, and VOD replays will not be provided after the stream ends.
'Cyberpunk: Edgerunners 2' is an anime series based on the universe of CD Projekt Red's video game 'Cyberpunk 2077', with Japanese animation studio TRIGGER returning for production as with the previous series. Released in 2022, the first entry told the story of David Martinez and his crew in Night City, whereas the follow-up unfolds an independent story focused on an all-new cast of characters.
Rather than serving as a direct sequel, the new series is produced as a standalone story sharing the same world. Main characters include 'Weak', a former legendary edgerunner now living without cyberware, and 'D', a Nomad driven by revenge. Set against the backdrop of Night City, the stories of characters with contrasting motives intertwine, dealing with core themes such as revenge, redemption, family, and legacy.
There are also key updates to the production staff. Kai Ikarashi, who directed major scenes in the original series, takes over as director, with Ichigo Kanno joining as chief character designer. Screenwriters Bartosz Sztybor and Masahiko Otsuka, who penned the narrative for the first entry, have rejoined the project. The creators plan to expand the direction of the series with fresh characters and storylines while maintaining Studio TRIGGER's signature dynamic animation and direction.
Consisting of 10 episodes in total, 'Cyberpunk: Edgerunners 2' releases on Netflix on October 20. The free screening of Episode 1 takes place on CD Projekt Red's official Twitch channel, where domestic viewers can tune in at 7:00 PM KST and at 4:00 AM KST the following day.
