Overwatch Contenders NA: Stories of the Off-Season

▲ Eight teams from North America will battle it out for $100,000.

The North American scene has been quiet as many of the teams have fielded players for the Overwatch World Cup over the last couple of months.
Immortals easily remained on top during Season Zero, steamrolling the competition and dropping only one map in the playoffs. Joining them will be Team EnVyUs, Rogue, FNRGFE, FaZe Clan, Renegades, and EnVision Esports who are replacing Team Liquid after their recent disbanding.

The anticipation for this season is sky-high as Team EnVyUs and Rogue join the fray, having not been part of the most recent North American action with their participation in OGN’s Apex Season 3.

Storylines of the Off-Season

EnVision Esports – A surprise to most? Perhaps. An earned slot? Certainly. EnVision Esports have officially claimed Team Liquid’s position in Season One of the Overwatch Contenders and they couldn’t be happier. This team comes into the mix after failing to qualify with losses to Team Liquid and Renegades in Season Zero, but rightfully earning their spot after making it out of the group stage.

With the recent departure of their main-tank Kophee, ChrisTFer, formerly of Hammers Esports, will be joining the team. EnVision is also currently trialing new coaches as Packing10 decided to step-down and return to school.

Final Roster: Fire, Fahzix, McGravy, Jaru, Tseini, ChrisTFer

Rogue – It’s been far from quiet for Rogue who have taken their skills to the Overwatch World Cup. Under the banner of France, they dominated the Shanghai qualifier this past July, taking down Thailand, Denmark, Argentina, and Norway to qualify for Blizzcon this November. After having the opportunity to compete as a full team in the World Cup, all eyes are set on what they’ll be able to do after returning to North America.

FaZe Clan – The offseason has been quiet for the FaZe Clan name, but all five members of the roster have kept themselves busy with their participation in the Overwatch World Cup as FCTFCTN, Rawkus, and Joemeister all qualified for Blizzcon.

With Lui’s departure this past July it was unclear throughout most of the off-season who would fill in the final position. With the final rosters being released it would seem Carpe who previously played for BK Stars will complete the roster. That being said, both Surefour (Cloud9) and iuKeEe (Cyclowns) are listed as substitutes for the team, creating for an interesting lineup.

Final Roster: FCTFCTN, Rawkus, Spree, Carpe, Joemeister, Shadowburn, Surefour, iuKeEe
