Tencent Esports will implement the Tencent Esports Competition Solution (ECS) across 11 esports events at the 20th Asian Games, supporting operations from pre-match equipment inspections to post-match record management.
Esports will feature as an official medal event for the second time at the 20th Asian Games. Matches will be held from September 22 to October 2 in Hall D of Aichi Sky Expo in Japan, with the program consisting of six game categories and 11 events. Tencent Esports described this as the largest esports program in Asian Games history.
ECS is a solution designed to support referees as well as competition operations and monitoring teams in running different game engines, version control systems, and device environments within a single multi-sport event. Tencent Esports stated that it is its first competition solution designed for large-scale intercontinental esports tournaments.
Before matches, the Inspection Station checks player peripherals, equipment, and the competition environment while managing check-in records. During matches, the Monitoring Console tracks more than 30 real-time indicators, including device and network status. It also integrates multiple video feeds, such as Player POV, Observer View (OB), and Hand Cam.
After matches conclude, officials verify records and footage in the Review Room. Post-match review, data storage, record summaries, and video archiving are also supported during this stage.
Tencent Esports stated that it supported the operation of a total of 217 matches at the 19th Asian Games, completing the schedule without technical disruptions. Building on that experience, ECS underwent three trials between January and June 2026 across Japan, Singapore, and Vietnam. In early September, integrated system testing was also conducted at the Asian Games venue ahead of the official tournament opening.
Yati Zhang, Director of Tencent Esports, said, "As esports establishes itself as an official event in multi-sport competitions, tournament operation processes must also meet the fairness standards established in traditional sports. ECS transforms areas that previously relied on operational personnel's experience—such as equipment inspection, real-time monitoring, and referee support—into traceable, trackable, and reviewable technical processes." She added, "We hope ECS will serve not just for a single tournament, but as a reusable technological foundation across various esports environments in Asia and beyond."
The Olympic Council of Asia (OCA) formed a 10-year strategic partnership with Tencent Esports spanning from 2025 to 2035. Both parties aim to establish a standardized competition operating system and technical infrastructure by applying ECS across all 11 esports events at this tournament.
Husain Al-Musallam, Director General of the OCA, said, "As esports continues to grow across Asia, establishing a more standardized and institutionalized competition operational framework is a vital long-term task. Implementing Tencent Esports' competition solution at the Asian Games represents another step in this direction." He added, "We hope this collaboration will contribute to the development of operational frameworks, technical standards, and the broader esports ecosystem, helping establish new benchmarks for Asian esports."
According to company introduction materials, Tencent Esports was established on December 9, 2016, and manages esports titles across eight categories. Its events cover more than 90 countries and regions, with global viewership exceeding 100 billion views in 2023. In June 2024, it launched the Empower Esports Worldwide Series.
