Through Sony's State of Play, the release date for the final chapter of the Final Fantasy VII remake trilogy was finally confirmed for April 8, 2027.
During the PlayStation State of Play broadcast on the 3rd, Square Enix revealed a new gameplay video for 'Final Fantasy VII Revelation' and announced its release date as April 8, 2027.
At the end of the broadcast, a trailer revealing the release date of Final Fantasy VII Revelation was released alongside an in-depth gameplay video lasting about 10 minutes. The release window, which was previously known only as spring 2027, has now been locked down to a specific date.
Revelation is the final chapter of the remake trilogy that began in 2020 with Final Fantasy VII Remake and continued in 2024 with Final Fantasy VII Rebirth. At the same time, it concludes the latter half of the story of the original Final Fantasy VII.
At the core of the combat system is the newly introduced FITS (Function-Integrated Tactical Suitwear) system. Party members can freely alter their playstyle by equipping four types of exclusive suitwear—Warrior, Knight, Black Mage, and Summoner—with each suit granting unique skill sets and combat functions, vastly expanding tactical combinations.
In the revealed footage, Cid was shown wearing the Knight suitwear, while Vincent wore the Summoner suitwear. FITS not only alters combat capabilities but also changes character appearances, which the developers introduced as a fashion element.
Party management has also become more flexible. A real-time character swap feature during exploration has been added, along with a system that allows players to directly select which party member takes on specific quests. The developers explained that these choices are designed to have a tangible impact on subsequent story progression and gameplay situations.
Exploration elements have expanded significantly to open-world scale. Players can directly pilot the series' iconic airship, the Highwind, to traverse the entire planet. For ground exploration, the Chocobo Piko appears. Notably, rather than serving as mere transportation, Piko acts as a companion who joins in battle.
Piko grows alongside the party, gaining new abilities in both traversal and combat. A grappling gun assisting urban movement has also been added, allowing fast travel between rooftops; in previous footage like the Gamescom trailer, Yuffie was seen traversing the city with the grappling gun.
Final Fantasy VII Revelation, which covers the conclusion of the series, will launch on April 8 for PC, PS5, XSX|S, and Nintendo Switch 2.
