Capcom has revealed a new trailer for 'Monster Hunter Wilds: Ascendance', a massive expansion for 'Monster Hunter Wilds', during State of Play.
In the newly released video, Capcom introduced a new locale, new monsters, and updated combat mechanics. The expansion is set to release on PS5 in 2027.
Ascendance begins with a new story building on the base game 'Monster Hunter Wilds'. The narrative unfolds as the colossal Elder Dragon Lao-Shan Lung suddenly appears in the Forbidden Lands, where the Expedition Team was stationed, leaving them helpless as devastation ensues. As time passes, the Expedition Team constructs a new stronghold, 'Madoi Stronghold', to prepare for Lao-Shan Lung's return. Meanwhile, as the mist shrouding the skies of Wyveria clears, the Skybound Eyrie is discovered high in the heavens.
New monsters were also unveiled. 'Araketa', an avian monster that flies in flocks, uses powerful air currents blasted from its wings to fly long distances at high speeds, while the pack leader commands the movements of its flock with a distinct call. The new Elder Dragon, 'Gundoraja', is a force with the power to control storms, depicted as a menacing adversary emerging from the thick dark clouds of the Skybound Eyrie. Both monsters were introduced as brand-new species making their debut in this expansion.
The combat system introduces new gear called the 'Boost Bracer'. Activated via the Slinger, this equipment grants new actions across all weapon types. By aggressively attacking monsters to build up a gauge, players can activate Boost with a dedicated action to unleash enhanced attacks and new combos specific to each weapon for a limited time. Detailed actions for each weapon type will be revealed sequentially through official channels in the future.
To play Ascendance, players must own the base game 'Monster Hunter Wilds', reach Hunter Rank 40, and complete the quest "Awakening from a Dream" to enter Master Rank.
'Monster Hunter Wilds: Ascendance' is scheduled to launch in 2027 on PC, PS5, and XSX|S.
