Square Enix showcased a new trailer for 'Final Fantasy VII Revelation' at Gamescom 2026 Opening Night Live (ONL) on August 25 (local time). Remake series director Naoki Hamaguchi took to the stage in person to introduce the video.
Taking center stage in the trailer were the 'Weapons,' guardians of the planet. Ruby Weapon, Emerald Weapon, and Ultima Weapon, who appeared as formidable foes in the original game, were revealed alongside footage of Cloud and his party battling these colossal Weapons.
In particular, beyond simply facing giant enemies, players can see various combat scenarios tailored to each Weapon. Some of 'Revelation's' Weapons will feature in the main story, while others will serve as optional content found across the world map. Director Hamaguchi previously explained in an interview that each Weapon is designed to add unique mechanics on top of the existing combat system.
'Final Fantasy VII Revelation' is the third and final installment of the remake project modernizing the 1997 release 'Final Fantasy VII.' Continuing the story after the previous title 'Rebirth,' it depicts the threat of Meteor, the awakening of the Weapons, and the final battle against Sephiroth. Players can freely explore a vast world using the airship Highwind, while Vincent and Cid—who were not directly controllable in the previous game—join as playable characters.
'Final Fantasy VII Revelation' is scheduled for a simultaneous worldwide release in spring 2027 on PS5, Nintendo Switch 2, Xbox Series X|S, and PC.
